Oh my Dorothy Marie...

This little girl is just too much fun! I love having her at school with me this year and am so glad I made the decision to send her to Kindergarten early....she is such a hoot and full of personality. She can be the sweetest and the not so sweetest kid ever. She loves to hang out with me after school in the library, although riding the bus home is a favorite too and sometimes a hard decision to make, stay with mom, or ride the bus with Hannah....most days the bus wins!

Her teacher has been absolutely wonderful with her. Every day after school if the student stay on Green all day, then they get a "smelly". Well, one day I got an email during the day from Marie's teacher saying she punched a girl at recess and so she was moved to yellow and that she was very upset. I emailed back saying thanks and I'm glad she can learn these lessons when she's young, I'll make sure and be oh so sad....

When she got to me in the library I asked to smell her smelly, which I knew wasn't there. Then she proceeded to tell me in many more details then you all care to hear that the kids lied to Mrs. Tapia, she' didn't punch the girl. So I kept asking questions and trying to find out a little more. In the end the comment came out, "mom, I didn't punch her I pushed her!" So although she was not happy with the choice of words used and that the other kids who tattled messed them up, we had to have a discussion that even pushing isn't okay, even when the little girl kicks over your sand castle! Ah life lessons of Kindergarten, I LOVE them and can't wait for more! Needless to say she hasn't missed a smelly since!

Hanging out in the library!

A bit of a nerd

So I have to admit I'm a bit of a nerd these days. I really think it's the librarian thing....it's turned me into this person who thinks of pretty much nothing else but books. I believe it has some great benefits for my family as a whole. But the one thing it has brought me is the inside scoop on the newest books coming out. I have "friends" who get me preview books before they're published and I feel sometimes like I'm dealing black market goods! Now for all of you readers out there you better be waiting for this next title, and for those of you who don't read or are looking for a series to jump into, here it is. It's the Hunger Games trilogy, and number three comes out August 24. I've already promised the kids at school that it will be in our library cataloged and ready to check-out on August 25. Parents please preview before letting your young child read it. I haven't let my 4th grader and am leaning to next year or the next before I do, it's quite mature in nature. (Did you know I'm the meanest mom ever, I don't let her ready Twilight either!) So, I am including a widget of the countdown because I cannot wait. And I've even learned that I'll have to wait with the rest of the public before I read it too as there will not be any advanced copies released to my "friends" either!

You're Hired...

So, for those of you who haven't heard, I got a job. Yeah, like a real, full-time, have to wear something besides a velour warm-up job. I am one of the two media specialists at our elementary school. I was supposed to start Monday, but on the way home from Thanksgiving I came down with an inherited case of strep throat. Literally the worst case I have EVER had, and I've had it A LOT!!! I knew I should have had my tonsils out two summers ago, I may just have to break down and do it this summer. I couldn't even talk, so my poor husband who was coming down with the same contagious ailment, had to call in SICK for me for my first day of work. How humiliating is that? I'm was pretty much mortified. Thank goodness for drugs and Dr.Brough. After about 24 hrs I was feeling a wee bit better and started on Tuesday. I LOVE MY JOB! It's hard waking up at 5:45ish in the morning, because I am NOT a morning person, but it is so much fun! Ask me in a couple months, but man oh man, I can catalog like no other. I love seeing all the cute kids. The other assistant is a very nice lady, Irene, and she will be turning 71 in February. But I mean there's just books EVERYWHERE. Good books, dumb books, funny books, and I'm going to start reading them all TODAY! I think I found my calling in life, now if I could just get a pay raise that would be great! Hannah gets to be at school with me all day, Emily half day at school and half day at my wonderful friends house where Rie goes all day. Thank goodness for PRICELESS FRIENDS! Not that I was a great blogger to begin with, but it may be even worse now. I'll try, because I still need to post about our fun trip to New Mexico that included SNOW, stay tuned!
